Bowker Three Peak Mountain Challenge on Course for £1500 Charity Windfall

More than 20 staff from a Preston car dealership swapped BMWs for boots on July 3rd in a successful attempt to climb the three highest peaks in Yorkshire in a 25-mile endurance challenge for charity.

The intrepid team from Bowker BMW on the docks in Preston climbed 5,200 feet in around ten hours - with team member Paul Crowhurst fastest with a time of 9 hours and 42 minutes.

Called the Three Peaks of Yorkshire, the challenge began and finished at Horton-in-Ribblesdale.

The staff taking part climbed Pen-y-ghent (691m), Whernside (728m), and Ingleborough (723m).

Derian House Children’s Hospice, MacMillan Nurses and Breast Cancer Research are on course to benefit to the tune of £1500 in total.

Service advisor Eoghan Gilbert who co-ordinated the challenge said,

"This was a huge challenge for us all. Many of the team were inexperienced climbers and we were training for weeks.

"Although we weren't be too far from civilisation and the weather was perfect, it was a long walk and still demanding. It's not a waymarked route so map and compass skills were required too. It's all for good causes and that's what kept us going!"

Only last month, five staff from the active dealership completed the Bupa Great Manchester Run. Eoghan Gilbert, Tim Nuttall, Paul Crowhurst, Dave Hiney and Chris Kilgour completed the 10 kilometre course raising more than £1000 for several charities including Kids Can and Children with Leukemia.
